EOI to participate in Kangaroo Management Program (SA)

The Kangaroo Partnership Project, in association with South Australian Landscape Boards and the SA Drought Hub, would like to gauge the interest level of Farmer Assist members willing to participate in Kangaroo Management in the North West Gawler Ranges. Other species, such as feral goats, foxes, feral cats, and rabbits, will also be targeted.

This project will have a year-long trial utilising volunteer shooters such as yourself to help prevent further environmental damage from overabundant kangaroos. Although locations and times have not yet been confirmed, the journey to the North West Gawler Ranges is approximately 8-9hrs (~ 765km) from Adelaide.

Camping and other facilities will be provided by participating landholders. There may also be opportunities to help with the collection of environmental survey data to assist in the monitoring of the program’s progress.

This program is not a once-off shoot and will require a commitment to return for additional shooting activities until the trial period has been completed.  Ongoing activities into the future may be required to achieve and maintain project goals.

Please apply if you are both interested and committed to participating in this program.

FA National coordinator Matthew Godson will be assessing  and managing all EOI applications and will communicate directly with chosen members once more details about the project have been finalised.

Destruction permits will be issued to all participants and shooting requirements are outlined in the National Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos and Wallabies for Non-Commercial Purposes.
