The South Australian Dog Fence Board and Local Dog Fence Boards are seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced and appropriately accredited service providers to undertake kangaroo control activities along sections of the South Australian Dog Fence as part of the state government’s $97 million drought-support package to support the management of kangaroos in drought-impacted regions.

The South Australian Dog Fence is a critical piece of rural infrastructure extending approximately 2,110 kilometres across the state. It plays a vital role in protecting sheep production areas from wild dogs and supporting the ongoing viability of pastoral and agricultural enterprises.

In addition to wild dog management, effective kangaroo population control along the Dog Fence is essential to:

– reduce grazing pressure on adjacent pastoral land;
– minimise fence damage caused by high kangaroo numbers; and
– support broader land and pest animal management objectives.

Areas of Work
Services may be required across the following Local Dog Fence Board areas:

Penong Local Dog Fence Board
Central Local Dog Fence Board
Marree Local Dog Fence Board
Frome Local Dog Fence Board

Work locations may include pastoral and agricultural land located inside the Dog Fence, within these regions, subject to landholder interest and permission.

Applicants should demonstrate:

experience in kangaroo control, relevant licences and accreditations required under South Australian legislation;
compliance with animal welfare standards, firearms legislation and workplace health and safety requirements; and
the ability to work collaboratively with landholders, Local Dog Fence Boards.
Engagements may be undertaken on an as-needed basis, subject to operational priorities, seasonal conditions and funding availability.
