Activity Planning and Risk Management Checklist

Introduction

Effective pest animal management requires more than simply arriving on a property and commencing activities. Successful outcomes depend on clear communication, careful planning, an understanding of legal requirements, and the identification and management of potential risks.

This Activity Planning and Risk Management Checklist has been developed to assist SSAA Farmer Assist volunteers and landholders to discuss and document important considerations before activities commence. Completing this checklist helps ensure that all parties have a shared understanding of objectives, responsibilities, operational requirements and safety expectations.

The checklist is designed to support compliance with the SSAA Farmer Assist Code of Practice and promote best-practice work health and safety principles. It encourages participants to identify potential hazards, assess risks and implement appropriate control measures to minimise the likelihood of incidents occurring during field activities.

• Activity objectives and responsibilities
• Property access and operational boundaries
• Activity planning and scheduling
• Hazard identification and risk management
• Relevant legislation, permits and approvals
• Animal welfare obligations and applicable codes of practice
• Insurance considerations
• Emergency preparedness and communication

This checklist can be completed collaboratively by the landholder and participating SSAA member(s) prior to undertaking any activities. A signed copy should be retained by both parties as a record that key operational, safety and compliance matters have been discussed and understood.

While this checklist does not replace any legal obligations, workplace safety requirements or permit conditions, it provides a practical framework to support safe, responsible and effective pest animal management activities under the SSAA Farmer Assist Program.
