Using Kontrak Social to set out conditions of access

When landholders and hunters/shooters agree to property access, both parties must be clear about the terms of access and their obligations. Kontrak Social is here to help with an easy-to-use mobile phone App.

Securing written permission to access private property is essential. This ensures people avoid embarrassing situations and potential legal issues. Hunters, in particular, face serious legal consequences if they are found carrying a firearm on private land without proper permission.

Landholders also face risks when allowing uninsured people onto their property, as liability may transfer to them if an incident occurs and the person lacks public liability insurance.

Many property access and hunting/shooting agreements are made informally, often with just a handshake or verbal commitment. This has the potential to lead to misunderstandings when one or both parties find it difficult to remember past conversations about agreements, instructions, or responsibilities. If both parties have differing interpretations of the terms they discussed in these informal agreements, this may lead to the breakdown of relationships, which benefits neither party.

Introducing Kontrak Social
To address the above challenges, Kontrak Social was developed to be a free mobile app to simplify and formalise property access agreements and gear lending arrangements in real time.

Kontrak Social provides a structured, easy-to-manage solution for landholders and hunters/shooters. By creating a “Kontrak” within the app, both parties can document permission conditions such as terms of access, and hunting/shooting instructions including shooting areas, target species and exclusion zones — all in a clear and accessible format. The app also allows users to upload photographic evidence of licensing, memberships, insurance coverage and other information such as property maps.

Setting up a Kontrak is fast and straightforward. After downloading the app from the Apple Store or Google Play, users complete a brief setup process, enter their basic profile information, and are ready to create agreements.

Key Features:

  1. Set terms of access and define obligations.
  2. Use photographic records to mark property locations and access points.
  3. Upload photos highlighting property features, hazards, or restricted areas.
  4. Monitor and update agreements dynamically in real time.
  5. Sign Kontraks with a selfie for easy identity verification, ensuring all parties are identified.

Upcoming Features:
Kontrak Social is constantly improving and developing new features with live check-in/check-out and geofencing to enhance access control is coming soon.

Benefits for SSAA Members and Landholders

  1. Legal Protection:
    • A Kontrak serves as written documentation outlining hunting permissions and access terms, helping to prevent misunderstandings.
    • Provides proof of compliance with property access rules and licensing requirements.
  2. Enhanced Security:
    • Landholders can manage access permissions dynamically, modifying or revoking access as needed.
    • Ability to update dates and prevent access conflicts with real-time Kontrak amendments.
  3. Streamlined Management:
    • Simplifies the process of creating, tracking, and managing agreements.
    • An upcoming offline mode will ensure data accessibility anytime, anywhere.
  4. Privacy Protection:
    • Kontraks are only accessible through each user’s device – there is no public data sharing.
    • All agreements and personal data are encrypted, with no exploitable password database.
    • Access requires OTP phone number verification, therefore ensuring security.

By integrating Kontrak Social into planning and property management, hunters/shooters and landholders can ensure a safer, more legally compliant approach to property access. The current version of the app is free, and while future versions will introduce subscription-based features, the existing iteration will remain free to use.

How It Works
Creating a Kontrak is simple:

  1. Discuss the basic terms with the person you want to create an agreement of access with.
  2. Open the app and choose the appropriate Kontrak type ‘Access” for pest control activities.
  3. Select the contact from your list or invite them to join the app.
  4. Select ‘Lend’ if providing access or ‘Borrow’ if requesting access.
  5. Enter a description and agreement terms, then the start and end date.
  6. Sign the Kontrak with a selfie and send it.
  7. The recipient will receive the details via their phone’s messaging app. (New users must receive the invite from a trusted contact in their contact list because the app does not send unsolicited messages.)
  8. If the recipient already has the app, they will get a push notification, and the Kontrak will appear as “pending” until both parties agree and sign.

Once both parties have signed with a selfie, the Kontrak becomes officially established within the app.

With Kontrak Social, managing property access has never been easier—bringing clarity, security, and efficiency to access agreements.
